Who we are
Technical development, not certificates.
A student-led community at the University of Lagos whose primary mission is Technical Development, building technically sound members through structured training, mentorship, and practical learning opportunities.
How the programme works
DCU runs a full-semester programme across four specialist tracks. Members go through a structured curriculum, from foundational ramp-up to Capstone Projects, supported by weekly challenges, peer accountability pairs, bi-weekly mentorship sessions, and industry-facing sponsorship sessions.
Everyone starts with Challenge 0: environment setup with Python, GitHub and VS Code. It is the same for every track and it is the gate, no submission means no track, no mentor, and no accountability partner. It isn't a punishment; it's a filter that protects your time and ours.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Sunday | New study materials are dropped for the week. |
| Monday–Thursday | Self-paced study from the assigned materials. |
| Wednesday | Mid-week progress check-in. Track leads confirm their weekend slots. |
| Friday | The weekly challenge is released. |
| Saturday | Live execution session, debugging, Q&A and code review. |
Accountability
Self-study is unreliable, so members are paired. If one partner misses a weekly challenge, both lose points on the leaderboard. It sounds harsh until you realise the point is to make a stranger into a colleague.
How we're organised
Five teams, one community
Every team is student-run. Each one owns a slice of the member experience, and none of them works in isolation.
Training
Owns the curriculum. Four tracks, weekly materials, Friday challenges, Saturday execution sessions, and the study group programme.
Programs
Runs logistics and the calendar: venue, agenda, attendee experience, and the flagship Datathon end to end.
Sponsorship
Finds and manages the partners who fund prizes, food and venue, and keeps sponsor relationships warm year-round.
Design
Event branding, flyers, certificates and achievement badges. Every asset the community puts its name on.
Content
Publicity and online engagement, countdown campaigns, announcements and the community's social presence.
